Food Security: The Rising Resource Challenge

What’s the next major security challenge in this still-young 21st Century? ARPN Expert Chris Berry makes the case for food security, tracing demographic trends and the rise of billions of Planet Earth’s inhabitants from subsistence living to something approaching the middle-class lifestyle.

Says Berry: “Phosphate, a mineral crucial for healthy crop growth, has been lost in this debate, but I do not expect this to remain the same for much longer. With global population growing (forecast to be 30% larger than today by 2050) and arable land decreasing, the role of fertilizers like phosphate promises to become more pronounced.”
