What is U.S. policy on a ready supply of critical and strategic minerals?
The U.S. government’s failure to speak with one voice on this key issue has led to inconsistent information concerning America’s mineral needs and a splintered policy to ensure adequate access. Conflicting federal studies make it difficult for lawmakers to pinpoint metal shortages, impeding legislation that would encourage domestic mineral exploration — and leaving the United States vulnerable to supply disruptions.
To reconcile these disparities, American Resources Policy Network examined eleven recent government reports assessing critical and strategic minerals to draw a composite portrait of our resource needs and resource risks. We offer the result — our American Resources Policy Network Report – Reviewing Risk: Critical Metals and National Security — in hopes that it will inform the policy landscape and help strengthen U.S. economic, technological, and strategic sectors in an era of increasing resource competition.
